In a statement to Black Press Media Friday (July 4), it says that number of Canadians detained is as of June 27. The statement added that this number of cases is "typical at any given time however the number fluctuates as cases are resolved, and new cases arise."

Global Affairs added that consular officials provide consular assistance to those detained, but due to privacy concerns further information would not be shared.
