A seven-year-old child died and four other people were hospitalized with serious injuries after an early morning Sooke Road crash on Sept. 7.
Sooke RCMP was called to the intersection of Sooke and Woodlands roads at 2:15 a.m. where they discovered a black two-door sedan had collided with a tree, felling it onto the road.
Upon arriving, emergency responders said multiple people had life-threatening injuries, but all of the sedan’s five occupants were seriously injured. On Sept. 9, the BC Coroners Service confirmed it was investigating a death linked to the crash.
In a Friday update, police said that through their investigation, they determined the car was heading west on Sooke Road when it hit a concrete curb near a bus stop before crashing into the tree.
“This investigation is expected to be a lengthy one, and a final determination on cause is anticipated to take some time,” said. Sgt. Chris Manseau, of BC RCMP communication services. He added that the Vancouver Island RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) is also involved in the investigation.
