Capilano University closed its North Vancouver Main and Lonsdale campuses on June 21, 2024 after a violent threat was made against a student. The campuses are set to remain closed until at least the end of June 23.

All of Capilano University's campuses are open again Monday (June 24), following a three-day closure triggered by a violent student threat.

The university made the decision to shutter its North Vancouver Main and Lonsdale sites for Friday, Saturday and Sunday after it became aware of a threat one student had made against another. University president Paul Dangerfield said in a statement that the threat suggested something violent would happen on campus last Friday (June 21).

Since then, the university says its student affairs division and North Vancouver RCMP have investigated and determined "there is a low risk" to the university.

"Violence, intimidation and bullying is unacceptable at Capilano University," Dangerfield said in a statement.

Black Press Media reached out to North Vancouver RCMP but did not hear back.

All Capilano University campuses are open and running as usual Monday.
