Boaters warned of Okanagan Lake water hazard

Vernon Search and Rescue (VSAR) crews were called by RCMP Wednesday evening to investigate an overturned and sinking boat

A sinking boat has officials warning Okanagan Lake users of the potential water hazard.

Vernon Search and Rescue (VSAR) crews were called by RCMP Wednesday evening to investigate an overturned and sinking vessel in the vicinity of Ellison Park.

"Finding the subject vessel securely tied to a marker buoy and accompanied by a bright floaty, we offer thanks to whomever made sure everything was as safe as possible before abandoning ship," VSAR said.

"If you will be out and about in this area of the lake in the near future, please keep you eyes out for this mostly submerged vessel until it is salvaged."

VSAR saw 17 volunteers respond to the police call, using both of its lake boats – Legacy, which is moored at the Vernon Yacht Club, and Safe Landing, which was trailered from the hall and launched at Paddlewheel Park.
