Emergency crews responded to a collision between a B.C. Transit bus and a cyclist during rush hour this morning near the corner of Goldstream Avenue and Island Highway.

According to West Shore RCMP, both the bus and the cyclist were on Island Highway and stopped at the traffic light at Goldstream Avenue. They both proceeded when the light turned green, travelling towards Victoria, with the cyclist between the bus and the curb.

The cylist’s handlebars were reportedly struck by the side of the bus, sending the rider over the handlebars with the bike ending up 10 feet in front.

The cyclist was transported to hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

BC Transit communications manager Jonathon Dyck said that the collision is being investigated internally.

“We send our wishes to the person injured this morning and hope that they have a full and quick recovery,” Dyck said. “We will be working with our driver to ensure that they also receive the support that they require.”

“At this time we’re going to look at this internally and see what happened and try to see if there’s anything that can be done to prevent it from happening again.”
