Island Health has reopened the emergency department at Saanich Peninsula Hospital for walk-in patients, but ambulances normally serving Saanich Peninsula Hospital are still going to Royal Jubilee Hospital instead.
Island Health earlier placed the emergency room on temporary diversion because of issues related to the flooding that could have potentially impact diagnostic equipment. The move had meant that people in need of immediate emergency medical care had to call 911 or to proceed to the emergency department at Victoria General or Royal Jubilee hospital. Patients can now directly access the emergency room.
An earlier statement from the health authority said patients, staff and medical staff are safe after the hospital experienced localized flooding due to heavy rainfall.
Island Health said it is continuing to monitor the situation and will provide updates as needed.
Photos taken Monday morning show crews from H2X, a Greater-Victoria based pumping services company, working on hospital grounds. Water is seen covering large areas outside the hospital as well as a loading dock.
