Firefighters douse basement blaze in 1918 Oak Bay home

Residents alerted by smoke alarms got out safely

Fire crews from Oak Bay and Saanich are investigating the source of a blaze on Tod Road Wednesday evening.

Oak Bay Fire was called and quickly knocked down a blaze shortly before 8 p.m. on Jan. 26, said fire prevention officer Capt. Rob Kivell.

The fire started and was contained in the basement of a 1918 character home. It suffered heavy smoke damage, Kivell said. Residents, alerted by smoke alarms, all got out safely.

Crews from Saanich and Victoria fire departments also responded.
