A Victoria homeowner’s quick thinking helped avert a major catastrophe Tuesday night, as a hot tub fire threatened to spread to his home.
Victoria Fire Department crews raced to the scene of a reported structure fire at 1390 Vista Hts. at around 9:30 p.m., having received numerous 911 calls. The found a hot tub fully involved in flames.
Firefighters immediately put water on the home’s deck, the blazing hot tub and a nearby fence. The resident had been spraying down his nearby propane tanks to keep them from heating up, which helped avert further fire damage. A neighbour’s tool shed received minor heat damage as a result of the fire.
The fire did not prevent the residents from sleeping in the home that night, but damage was estimated to be about $15,000. The cause of the fire was under investigation at the time of writing. A total of 17 firefighters and six emergency vehicles responded.
