West Shore RCMP are investigating after a cat came home with pellets embedded in its side.
Around 9:30 this morning (Aug. 6) a Langford woman called RCMP after she discovered her outdoor cat Otti had a .177 caliber pellet stuck in its left side. The pellet penetrated about three-fourths of the way through the pet’s skin. Police seized the pellet as evidence after the owner retreived the pellet using tweezers.
The cat sustained minor injuries but was able to resume his normal activities.
“The public needs to be reminded that for some people, domestic animals are like a family members to them,” said Cst. Brandon Marr. “These pellets are meant to be used for hunting or target practice. Depending on the rifle used, those pellets can travel at an average speed of 440 feet per second which can cause significant harm to a person or animal.”
The suspect(s) could face charges of endangering an animal.
