Langford Fire douses blaze after 10-year-old calls 911

Two cats rescued from rural Langford home Wednesday night, fire contained to one room

Langford Fire Rescue doused a fire last night (June 12) in a rural part of the community.

About 5 p.m. a youngster called 911 to report smoke coming from a neighbour’s home on Falcon Heights, off Finlayson Arm Road.

“She did a really good job in giving us the appropriate information,” praised Fire Chief Bob Beckett.

Firefighters put out the blaze in about 15 minutes before delving into cleanup. The fire was contained to the “room of origin”, Beckett said.

“So there’s limited fire damage, unfortunately there’s a lot of smoke damage.”

While no one was home at the time, two elderly cats were rescued by firefighters, and are in the care of the CRD.

About 24 firefighters from three Langford stations, and a water tender from Highlands Fire Rescue were one hand.
