Langford has reopened applications to a fund for RidgeView Place residents who were displaced in April after the condo building was found to be structurally unsound.

Out of a total pot of $76,395.84, raised through community donations and matched by the city, $44,609 was intially granted to 35 eligible households with an average of $1,275 per household.

Now the City of Langford is reopening applications for its Langford Emergency Grants Program in the hope of handing out the remaining funds. The Victoria-based philanthropic group Community Social Planning Council (CSPC) is helping the city with the process.

Forty households from the building at 2770 Claude Rd. applied for the funds during the first round, which closed on June 8. This round of funds is open to all 88 households that were displaced when the building closed.

“The Langford Emergency Grant Program has made a significant impact on the lives of displaced residents,” Langford Mayor Scott Goodmanson said in a statement. “The distribution of remaining funds reflects our commitment to ensuring that all affected households receive support during this challenging time. We are grateful to all those who made donations, including the West Shore Developers Association who rallied together quickly to offer their assistance.”

Applicants need a valid proof of tenancy at the time of displacement and current contact information and mailing address so they can receieve the funds.

Applications are open again until 5 p.m. on Sept. 30. They can be submitted at online at https://communitycouncil.ca/ridgeview/
