Man charged in 2024 death of B.C. serial killer Robert Pickton

A row of cells at Port-Cartier Institution in Quebec where convicted B.C. serial killer Robert Pickton had been since 2018. On May 19, 2024, he was assaulted at the prison and died 12 days later.

The inmate accused of killing B.C. serial killer Robert Pickton in a Quebec prison is now facing charges, according to media reports. 

Martin Charest is facing a charge of first-degree murder in the May 19, 2024 attack against Pickton, Quebec police confirmed to Black Press Media. Pickton died in hospital 12 days later on May 31, 2024.

Quebec police said Charest next court date is scheduled for Thursday (July 24).

Charest was named as the accused in a 2025 independent observer's report into the death of Pickton.
