A man is dead following a standoff with Coquitlam RCMP, Sunday night.

According to Cpl. Janelle Shoihet, police were called to a residence in the 2100 block of Audrey Drive in Port Coquitlam for a report of a distraught man with a gun.

“The complaint advised the man had allegedly fired shots into the air outside his residence prior to police being called,” stated a release.

As officers arrived on scene they found an armed man outside a home and Shoihet said allegedly shots were fired.

The man was later found dead by ERT members behind a vehicle with what is believed at this time to be a self-inflicted injury.

No RCMP officers or other individuals were injured.

The Independent Investigation Office of BC has been called to conduct an investigation to determine if there is a connection to the actions of police and suspect.
