UPDATE: Highway 18 is open for eastbound traffic only. There is a detour in place for westbound traffic. Eastbound traffic should expect minor delays.
Highway 18 in the Cowichan Valley has been closed due to a mudslide.
Mainroad Contracting was notifying the public Thursday afternoon that the main artery connecting the Cowichan Lake area to the rest of the Cowichan Valley is closed in both directions.
A detour is being put in place on Cowichan Lake Road between Cowichan Lake and Skutz Falls, they said.
