A photo of a needle taped to a handrail in a Victoria parkade is making the rounds on social media.
The photo, posted by Sam Hollington, was allegedly taken in a Victoria parkade and was found by a security guard while on patrol.
The City of Victoria released a statement late Monday afternoon to confirming the needle was found by a security guard at the Bastian Square Parkade on April 17, 2017.
“A needle taped to a handrail in a City parkade is highly uncommon. The City of Victoria is committed to public safety and takes such an incident very seriously,” the statement said.
In response to this incident, a police report was filed and the City increased the frequency of its security sweeps in all five downtown parkades.
The post has since been shared more than 3,800 times on Facebook and has drawn mixed reaction online.
“This city has a drug addict/homeless problem. Has for years. Wake up people, it’s not innocent little Victoria,” said one person.
“This seems weird to me and more like someone who doesn’t like homeless people or addicts and wants to freak people out. Like why would a homeless person or addict do that?” said another.
