A senseless attack on a 10-month-old Labrador puppy in Highlands left a dog with at least 12 pellet gun wounds to its body and the neighbourhood shaken.
West Shore RCMP were contacted by the dog’s owner after he found his pet, named Ozzy, unresponsive in the back yard of his Rockridge Place home on Wednesday and rushed the animal to a local veterinary clinic for care. Staff there removed at least 12 metal pellets from the dog’s body.
The pup was patched up and appears to be doing better, said Const. John Varley of West Shore RCMP, and investigators have begun looking into who might have committed this act of cruelty.
“This brazen attack not only left the puppy injured, but shook a whole community for this senseless act,” he sad.
Added Const. Alex Berube, “the fact it was 12 pellets is a clear indication that this was a deliberate act, so we’re hoping the community can come together and help us solve this case.”
