It’s been about a week since the last big snowfall in Victoria, but some residents aren’t happy due to remaining snow on trails and sidewalks in Mount Douglas Park.
Barry Duncan, an avid hiker of the Mount Douglas trails, says the trails being covered in snow are dangerous for both bikers and pedestrians

“I get to the Mt. Doug Cross Road, there’s a joint bike and walking trail normally, but it hasn’t been plowed at all so it’s impossible to walk on,” says Duncan.
Duncan has even taken to walking on the road instead of the trails because they’re clear of snow.

“There’s [even] guys walking their bikes and grumbling quite a bit,” says Duncan.
A statement from the Saanich Parks Department says they don’t typically clear snow on natural trail areas and are encouraging residents to avoid forested areas.

“At this point, we’re letting nature take its course with the snow melting,” read the statement. “Park visitors should wear appropriate footwear, avoid going off trail and take extra precautions until the snow has melted.”
Crews are currently working to clear the snow on the multi-use Mount Douglas trail.
