The 2013 Canadian Cancer Society Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock team received an enthusiastic reception at Esquimalt High this morning on the final leg of their emotional journey.
As the 17 riders walked their bikes through the gym entrance, students erupted in applause and presented the team with a $4,300 cheque for cancer research.
Military police officer and rider Mike Oliver introduced each of his colleagues and thanked the school, as well as several teachers who had just volunteered for a pie to the face, for their commitment to the cause.
The riders then left for Tillicum Mall and Reynolds secondary school, and will hit the final stop of their 1,000-kilometre, two-week journey across Vancouver Island today at 4 p.m. in Centennial Square.
