UPDATED: IIO investigating Thursday morning crash in Duncan that injured 2

Vehicle incident

The Independent Investigations Office of BC is seeking witnesses to a motor vehicle incident that occurred on the morning of Thursday, April 10, in Duncan and resulted in injuries to two people.

Information from the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP states that shortly before 6 a.m., police responded to a call about a collision involving two pedestrians and an SUV on the Trans-Canada Highway near the intersection with University Way.

After arriving, officers determined an off-duty officer had been driving the SUV involved in the collision, which took place in the northbound lanes of traffic.

Both pedestrians involved in the collision with the SUV were taken to the hospital with injuries and both are in serious but stable condition.

The IIO was notified the same day and is investigating.

Investigators would like to speak to anyone who saw the collision occur, have video of the incident or who was travelling through the area at the time.

The IIO is asking any person with relevant information about the incident to please contact the Witness Line toll-free at 1-855-446-8477 or via the contact form on the iiobc.ca website.

The crash snarled morning traffic in Duncan after the TCH's northbound lane was closed soon after the incident, and remained closed for much of the day as the investigation continued.
