An investigation is underway into a plane crash off the northwest coast of Vancouver Island yesterday that claimed two lives.

According to Nootka Sound RCMP, the plane carrying four individuals crashed in Tahsis Inlet near Mizona Point as it was flying from Masset to Tofino.

RCMP first received notice of the crash at around 2 p.m. Tuesday (June 20). Crews from the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre and the Coast responded to the scene, as did police by boat.

Transportation Safety Board of Canada investigators also headed to the scene of the crashed plane, which TSB described Wednesday (June 21) as a Quest Kodiak 100 aircraft.

It is not clear what caused the crash, but RCMP said in a statement it is working with TSB and BC Coroners Service to determine the cause of the incident.

More to come.
