Residents in the 1000 block of Tillicum Road received an unwelcome surprise Tuesday morning when a white van crashed into the yard of a home.
The vehicle flipped onto its side after tearing up a garden and coming to rest near the front corner of the house, at around 8:30 a.m. Cst. Matt Rutherford of the Victoria Police Department said the crash appears to have been caused by a mechanical issue.
“Another vehicle was travelling west on Selkirk Ave and attempted to make a right hand turn onto Tillicum and collided with the other vehicle. The vehicle then ended up on the front yard of a residence in the 1000-block of Tillicum Road,” Rutherford wrote in an email.
Kathy Masse and Laura Anderson were home getting ready for work when they heard a loud bang.
“Knew it was the house. Came running outside and seen the guy climbing out of the window of the car. And there was a car on its side in my driveway,” Anderson said, wearing a housecoat and towel wrapped around her hair.
They said they didn’t know about the driver, but no one inside the house was injured.
“What a way to wake up,” Masse said.
Traffic was reduced to one lane on Tillicum Road until first responders were able to remove the van.
