Victoria crews battle fire near recent blaze at Ricky’s restaurant

Sunday night fire rips through Government Street building

Victoria police and firefighters are investigating a large structure fire in the same area as a recent blaze that destroyed a restaurant.

The Victoria Fire Department received calls about the fire, which severely damaged the building at 2531 Government St., just before 11 p.m. Sunday (July 2).

Fire crews were on scene within minutes and prevented the fire from spreading to neighbouring buildings.

In a social media post, the department said the cause has not yet been determined and no one was hurt in the fire.

In the same neighbourhood, crews were called to Ricky’s All Day Grill at Burnside Road and Douglas Street just after 3 a.m. on June 16.

Victoria police detectives are now calling that fire arson.
