The man who died after he fell from the Johnson Street Bridge Wednesday night has been identified as Martin Lawrence Alphonse, 31, of Victoria.
The B.C. Coroners Service confirmed Alphonse died as a result of a six-metre fall from of the bridge's columns to the deck below around 11 p.m.
Alphonse had been climbing the bridge with several people; he was pronounced dead when he reached Victoria General Hospital by ambulance.
A Facebook profile of Marty Alphonse lists employment as Becon Support Services.
Alphonse's family has requested privacy as they grieve, said Island regional coroner Matt Brown.
