Victoria Police Chief Jamie Graham plans to retire at the end of the year.
Graham assumed the five-year term with VicPD on Jan. 1, 2009 after leaving Vancouver Police Department's top job.
“It has been a great privilege to serve the communities of Victoria and Esquimalt over the past five years,” the chief said in a statement.
Graham indicated his intention to retire in a letter to the Victoria Police Board.
Victoria Mayor Dean Fortin said a search for a new chief constable will take place over the coming months.
“On behalf of the police board, I want to extend my sincere appreciation for Chief Graham’s service to the people of Victoria and Esquimalt,” Fortin said.
