At least one person has been transported to hospital by ambulance after a stabbing Tuesday night in Victoria.

The incident happened just after 5 p.m. in the 800-block of Johnson Street, near a transitional housing facility that the provincial government set up last year to deal with ongoing problems at “Tent City.”

A heavy police presence remained on scene into the early evening as police officers with flashlights searched the area, while others stood at the door of 844 Johnson St. canvassing residents about what they may have seen or heard.

The middle-aged man taken to hospital is expected to survive and did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

A small portion of the area right outside the front doors has been taped off, with the yellow caution tape extending inside the building as well.

Police outside could be heard warning residents about the stabbing that had just taken place and are treating the vicinity as an active crime scene.
