Every year staff from various University of Victoria departments face off in the annual Plasma Car races, a fundraiser for the United Way.

This year’s event was on Tuesday.

Instead of going for lunch, participating staff form teams of four and do their best to shimmy, shift and steer the self-propelled toy vehicles (designed for toddlers) around the indoor course. They end up turning the Student Union Building’s Michèle Pujol Room into a lunch-hour rumpus room.

Winners take the Hubcap Trophy.

Cliff LeQuesne of 100.3 The Q FM has emceed the event for eighth of its 10 years.
