But some blame the gig economy more than the driver

It is illegal in Victoria to drive and park on a sidewalk.

But that didn’t stop one local driver from doing just that this week – behaviour that had people yelling “WTF?!” online.

The sidewalk is located just off Burdett Avenue and witness Nell Saba posted a photo on Twitter calling out the situation, with more criticism about food apps that pay so little that drivers do illegal things to deliver faster to earn more money.

“Pedestrians and rollers have so little,” tweeted Saba. “Please keep cars off of the sidewalk. Apparently this guy had a bunch of (food) to deliver. F*** these gig economy companies for exploiting workers and increasing car congestion and car dependency.”

The tweet prompted a bunch of replies.

“That guy should lose his license, period! I mean…. What the Actual F***!”

“Feels like it would take more effort to do that than to just park on Burdett and walk a bit.”

“Sidewalks aren’t parking lots.”

“If we’re going to have a delivery economy, we need to give the drivers places to park.”

“Time for some silly string.”

A couple of people had at least some sympathy.

“Let the guy work. He’s driving a work vehicle and might’ve needed a closer spot.”
