Today we went to the Colwood Pacific Activity Centre to vote in the advance polls. While we were in line for almost two hours, it was a wonderful experience. We talked with many people while waiting.
All around us, people were talking, laughing, sharing stories. It didn't matter what size, what colour, where we were born, what age we were or who we were voting for. We talked about Trump, the weather, how cold it can be in the winter in Canada, our worries, our families. We all had our reasons and a purpose to be there. To exercise our democratic right to vote in a consequential election in these uncertain times. In those moments, on a warm sunny day, we were all simply Canadians.
We all had the same goal: to protect our country, to not let anyone take it from us, to stand up against Trump, and to vote for whoever we felt could best protect us and stand up against the bullies.
When it's so easy to get dragged into the social media cesspool of anger, hate, conspiracy theories and division, it was wonderful to experience the real beauty of our people and our country.
