As reports this year continue to show that we are moving into a climate unfavourable to human civilization, we need to pressure our elected officials to eliminate fossil fuel subsidies in B.C. and put pressure on Trudeau to live up to his broken election promise to eliminate fossil fuel subsidies nationally.

Implementing a price on carbon while subsidizing the fossil fuel industry stops the policy from achieving its full potential. Renewable energy technologies are gaining ground now in this crooked market. Imagine the progress they would make on an even playing field.

The savings from fossil fuel subsidies could be put to use helping oilfield families, B.C. first nations and other struggling groups to retrain workers and diversify their local economies to provide sustainable energy and reliable long term jobs. This reclamation and targeted use of tax income would help to heal the political divide over fossil fuels and and allow us to focus on the environmental, economic, and social challenges we face.

We need leaders to find imaginative new solutions to incredibly tough problems. We can not stand anymore for managerial politicians seeking the path of least resistance.
