Re: Matthew Claxton's column, Cycling often comes with fear of drivers in the Peninsula News Review.

Last year, I moved to Sidney and found my new community to be very pedestrian-friendly. However, I am worried about the many cyclists as well as e-scooter users who are ignoring almost every British Columbia law concerning their obligations to ensure safety on the roads. In the past year, I have not once seen a cyclist come to a full stop at a stop-sign controlled intersection. Similarly, I notice e-scooters racing down the road and making turns without using direction signals.

The time has come for us to license bicycles to ensure that adequate insurance coverage is available and that cyclists pay their fair share of road maintenance. Moreover, police enforcement should take notice of cyclists to ensure the safety of all.
