The NDP would like to be seen as progressive, and in many ways they are, but one area where they are not is the environment. They have had many chances to demonstrate their concern for the environment but have chosen, again and again, to log ancient forests and invest big money in new fossil fuel infrastructure, committing us to decades of ever more polluting, climate-killing resource extraction.

On Vancouver Island, at least, we need not be so afraid of splitting the progressive vote and enabling climate-denying John Rustad's Conservatives. There are many ridings here where they haven't much chance. The Green Party offers real protection for the only planet we have. Any concerns for the environment the NDP affects to have are fake. John Horgan's Gillespie Road monstrosity, the only – and completely unnecessary – interchange on Sooke Road, is a prime local example.
