Re: CRD will study joining class-action lawsuit against ‘Big Oil.’ It’s so easy to point accusing fingers at others for their lack of perception, but a pointing finger is usually accompanied by three other fingers pointing back at the accuser.
Let’s see if I get this right: because a municipality has undersized culverts which result in road washouts – even when those responsible for those utilities were supposedly aware of forecast climatic conditions and did nothing about upgrading the utility in an effort to handle increased flow; and instead of the planned upgrade of culverts the waiting game is played resulting in a washout that now becomes someone else’s financial burden. Wow! Is that good planning? Where, pray tell, is the logical thinking and forward planning on this type of issue? Where is our leadership?
So roads wash out, blame someone else. Heck, that’s easy! Let someone else pay, because somebody at the municipal or local level forgot about, or didn’t consider, taking precautionary measures. Or if they did take precautionary measures, could it be those upgrades were inadequate? Even so, figure it out so that someone else has to pay.
If our politicians were Big Oil, would they be more inclined to work with or against someone suing them versus seeking a mutually beneficial outcome? Give your head a shake, folks.
Who has the deepest pockets when it comes to defending their position? Instead of wasting those precious resources fighting each other, isn’t it better to look for a reasonable middle ground?
Big Oil isn’t solely responsible for climate change. All consumers are contributors. Municipalities and their superiors are also somewhat responsible. No one is guilt-free.
Either way, we pay more in taxes to cover off lack of planning, or we pay more for oil products.
