I was horrified when I read your article about the woman and her two children who destroyed the quail population in a Royal Oak park. It is illegal and she should be ashamed of herself for teaching her children trickery to capture and kill or sell helpless beautiful quail.
We live on a small acreage in Saanich and have two large coveys of quail, about 30, which are free and protected here. When you study them you will see how the adult quail carefully protect and teach their offspring. They're amazing, comical birds and we are so lucky to have them here in our wildlife Mecca.
I told my friends who live near the Royal Oak park about what this woman did to the quail and they were shocked, sad and angry.
One thoughtless, uncaring human can do so much harm. She should be fined and maybe caged up for a while too.
