I believe designating roads like Brookleigh Road, Searidge Drive or Lochside Drive for 30 km/h speed limits does more harm than good.
It is already obvious that drivers will not respect these new traffic restrictions. The 30 km/h limit is a speed appropriate for school zones and playgrounds but not collector roads. A reasonable reduction in traffic speeds is 40 km/h, which was actually adopted by other municipalities.
Erring on the “cautious side” as I heard on the radio a few weeks ago is not a reasonable factor. A 30 km/h blanket restriction promotes non-compliance and disregard for the law in general.
