Whoa, it is time to hear from the people who live in Sooke. Council is looking at a $60-million detriment to the natural beauty that will be wiped out. The answer to the traffic congestion in Sooke is not to put a road through Throup Road.
I am speaking of the dirt trail that goes through the forest to the rec centre. The residents who have lived in homes for many years on Throup Road near the golf course paid for quiet. Let us not forget the abundant wildlife as well, which indubitably will get pushed out or killed. This area should remain untouched.
Charters Road at Sooke Road would be an answer to lessen speeding and the congestion of traffic flow in Sooke. Simply put in a traffic light at Charters Road, and at the light we can turn left to Victoria or right into Sooke.
There is another answer to traffic congestion in Sooke which is shockingly cheaper than building the road on Throup Road. Build a three-lane bridge from the entrance where we currently park at Whiffin Spit and make a bigger area for parking. They could build across to East Sooke, which is 300 metres across the water, with a short two-lane road and parking area on the East Sooke side to enter and exit the bridge to get to East Sooke Road and go to Kangaroo Road and continue to Langford.
No semis, large-box delivery trucks, buses or campers would be allowed on the bridge. The third lane would only be for emergency vehicles coming from the Sooke side, as this could save lives from Port Renfrew, to Sooke and East Sooke.
I really admire common sense. The money saved by building a three-lane bridge could be used on Sooke Road West for the approximately 10km of horrible, dangerous road, not patchwork.
