So here's the story. I won my first blue ribbon in bread in 1984. At that time, I was competing with some of the older Sooke ladies like Florence Acerman. I used to joke that I beat the little old ladies at their game. Now, at 82, I'm a little old man competing with... ?

I was out of the country last year for the Fall Fair, but the year before, I had four entries in "yeast bread" with three firsts and one second. I will hopefully be entering in "white bread," "brown bread" (whole wheat), "AOV" (any other variety) and "free standing" in yeast bread categories.  Come out and join me and say you beat the best.

If I've offended anyone with this rhetoric, it wasn't intentional and I'm not resigning my pensioner's job or giving back my ribbons.

Stay hungry, stay foolish,

Ken Pungente
