LETTER: Transparency is in the eye of the beholder

Perception is the only reality.

Two distinct views appear in the Dec. 12 issue of the Peninsula News Review: The article by Evan Lindsay, "North Saanich looks to bring back informal community engagement," and the letter, "Transparency lacking with North Saanich council."

It appears the talk on the floor of the Nov. 24 Mayor's Coffee House, at least what I heard, was not what councillors heard. Therefore the mayor and council can continue to "share what they have heard" even though these comments are neither verifiable nor on record.  My experience at the coffee house included Coun. Kristine Marshall refusing to speak with me without a witness, which also demonstrates only certain voices and opinions are readily accepted.

So why bother spending taxpayers' money on meetings that fail to meet any resemblance of transparency?
