In the U.S. the billionaires are knowingly, willingly, putting their money on a deranged orange horse. American nationalist Christian think tanks have provided Donald Trump with a 900-plus-page work of treachery, a work he is even incapable of reading, to turn their country into a fascist state. The billionaire class knows they will be destroying their Constitution, democracy and civil society all for another 10 to 15% tax cut. Destroying democracy for a tax cut. Insanity!
In addition to the billionaire class, many of the following groups will vote for Trump: Persons with no moral or ethical centre; Christians who think Jesus was a racist hater like they are; non-religious racists; people who would not have voted for universal health care; people who would not have voted for universal pensions; those who would not have voted for labour laws, human rights laws and environmental laws; those who think the destruction of our planet’s environment is no big deal, or indeed, those who don’t even have the wit to know we are destroying it.
In Canada we have, not to the same degree, every one of those seven classes and most of them have only one place to mark their “X” – the federal and provincial Conservative parties. Those seven classes fear the future, ignore the future, and lie about their own generation's contribution to its problems. Metaphorically speaking, They may mend a pothole, but would they ever build a park?
