LETTER: Victoria sacrificing its allure in relentless push for housing

Communities seeing drastic changes to accommodate affordable housing no developer plans to build

I keep reading (from “conspiracy” theories) about 15-minute cities and when I read a letter like this one, 'Housing a more pressing need than golf courses for Victoria', I am starting to think it might be true.

Enormous apartment/condo towers (like what is being proposed at Bayview Place) with no parking spaces, bike lanes literally taking over the city, and the latest: getting rid of outdoor recreation spaces to accommodate them. Is there anyone who wants to live in a place like this? No golf, pickleball, tennis or even safe walking? Giant towers that shade our communities. Will we next go after soccer fields and baseball diamonds?

All in the name of “affordable housing” which no developer plans to build? And this, in one of the most beautiful (and historic) cities in North America. What are we thinking?
