Greens in Greater Victoria are getting a lot of sun and just enough rain to offer welcoming sites for new lawn bowlers. This month, clubs across the region are hosting open houses to entice new athletes.
Drop by downtown Victoria’s neighbourhood green and try your hand at lawn bowling in Cridge Park, 720 Belleville St. (just behind the Crystal Garden) on April 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visit downtownlawnbowling.ca for details.
The city's oldest club, Victoria Bowls and Croquet Club (formerly Victoria Lawn Bowling Club), located in Beacon Hill Park, hosts its season-starting open house April 26 and 27 from noon to 4 p.m. Visit victorialbc.com for details.
With its first official day of the season on April 19, Lake Hill Lawn Bowling in Saanich hosts open houses on April 26 and 28. Visit lakehilllawnbowling.ca for details.
Gordon Head Lawn Bowling hosts its second open house of the season April 27 from 1 to 3 p.m. with demonstrations, refreshments and fun at the greens at 4105 Lambrick Way. Visit ghlbc.ca for details.
Members will be on hand to share their knowledge at the Burnside Lawn Bowling Club (274 Hampton Rd.) on April 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, April 26 from 1 to 3 p.m. All ages and abilities are welcome to try the sport for free. Learn more at burnsidelbc.ca.
Central Saanich Lawn Bowling Club hosts a two-day open house on April 26 and 17 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Centennial Park, 1800 Hovey Rd.
Open house Saturdays continue through May at the Oak Bay Lawn Bowling Club. To find out more about bowls, croquet or other activities, residents are invited to drop by the club in Carnarvon Park on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon on April 26 and May 3.
