It's set to be a banner year for Shea Weber.
Four months after hearing he would be inducted into the BC Hockey Hall of Fame, the Sicamous product and former Kelowna Rockets defenceman will now forever be enshrined into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Weber, along with fellow former NHL stars Pavel Datsyuk and Jeremy Roenick, have been announced as among this year's inductees into the prestigious Toronto-based museum.
After spending four years with the WHL's Kelowna Rockets, Weber went on to play parts of 16 seasons for the NHL's Nashville Predators and Montreal Canadiens from 2005 to 2021. The Sicamous-born blue liner, 38, posted 589 points in 1038 NHL games.
His career was also marked by success on the international stage, as Weber helped Canada win back-to-back gold medals at the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics.
Before suiting up in the Central Okanagan and leading the Rockets to a Memorial Cup victory in 2004, Weber played parts of the two seasons with the KIJHL's Sicamous Eagles from 2000 to 2002.
A graduate of the Sicamous and District Minor Hockey Association, the defenceman would go to be drafted by the Predators in the second round of the 2003 NHL entry draft.
In his first year of eligibility, Weber was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame after receiving more than 75 per cent of the vote from the selection committee.
The NHL announced this year's inductees on June 25, with former United States women's national team duo Natalie Darwitz and Krissy Wendell-Pohl also elected.
David Poile, a former general manager, and current NHL senior executive vice president of hockey operations Colin Campbell were elected in the Builder Category.
Weber, along with his former teammate Carey Price, will be inducted into the Penticton-based BC Hockey Hall of Fame during a ceremony on July 19.
