If you've been following Milos Raonic, Vasek Pospisil, or Frank Dancevic, you probably think Canada's fared less than perfectly at this year's Australian Open.
Turns out, you were just watching the wrong gender.
On Sunday, Montreal's Eugenie Bouchard became the first Canadian in 22 years to advance to any tennis major's quarterfinals, downing Casey Dellacgua in three sets – 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 6-0 – in Melbourne. On Tuesday, Bouchard will face Ana Ivanovic, the one-time World No. 1 who beat current top-ranked female player Serena Williams prior to Bouchard's match.
(*The last Canadian to reach a tennis major quarterfinals was Patricia Hy-Boulais in 1992, at the U.S. Open.)
Bouchard is currently ranked 30th in the world, the highest for a Canadian since Aleksandra Wozniak had the same standing in 2009.
