With the win, Utah climbed within two points of the Canucks and St. Louis Blues in the battle for the second and final NHL Western Conference wildcard slot.
After a scoreless first period, Hughes opened the scoring on the power play 2:37 into the second when his point shot deflected in off Utah’s Mikhail Sergachev. Hughes has 16 goals on the season.
Stenlund pulled Utah even at 12:04 of the second, converting a pass from Nick Bjugstad.
Cooley’s winner came at 5:08 of the third period, when he slotted home a point shot that deflected off a body in front of Lankinen.
