The power of four was unstoppable for a team of Langford Lanes bowlers who rolled to a B.C. championship in Bowl Canada’s National Classified tournament.
Brad Macdonald, Francis Kremler, Todd Jones and Brad Monette held off challengers from the Lower Mainland to score the overall victory May 10 at Town and Country Bowl in Vancouver and qualify for the national tournament, June 21 and 22 in Saskatoon.
“The guys are pretty excited,” said Jones, who was the top bowler in his average category (151-170) at provincials. “I mean, this is the first time for three of us at this level, but Brad (Macdonald) has been there before.”
The Langford foursome found themselves up by less than 100 pins heading into their fifth and final game of the day. By the mid-point the host Town and Country team had virtually caught up.
“We all bowled really well when it got really close,” Jones said. “We were pretty well tied coming into the last frame, but we all marked in the 10th.”
Macdonald, the highest-average bowler on the team competing in the 191-up division, finished with three straight strikes and wound up winning his category with a five-game total of 1,175.
The Langford team totalled 3,756 while Town and Country took second with 3,704. McCurdy Bowling Centre from Kelowna was also close, finishing third at 3,700, while the other Island squad competing, from Duncan Lanes, placed fifth at 3,151.
