Pacific FC's early-season hopes took a staggering double blow this week.
The Langford-based club confirmed that forward Ronan Kratt and defender Juan Quintana will both miss the remainder of the 2025 Canadian Premier League (CPL) campaign after suffering torn anterior cruciate ligaments (ACL) in the same match.
The injuries occurred during Pacific’s May 5 Canadian Championship loss to Vancouver FC.
The news lands just six games into the league season, with Pacific sitting fifth in the CPL table, having collected seven of a possible 18 points. Now, the Tridents must move forward without two key pieces on either end of the pitch.
Kratt, 21, had been finding his form in his debut season on the West Coast.
The Ottawa native scored in Pacific’s season opener on April 6 against Valour and again in his most recent league appearance, a May 3 loss to Atetico Ottawa. In five matches, Kratt notched two goals, placing him second on the team in scoring, only behind Dario Zanatta.
One of those goals might just go down as the goal of the season.
Is this spectacular volley from @Pacificfccpl's Ronan Kratt the @TELUS Goal of the Month? 🔱

A bright young attacker with a nose for goal, Kratt was expected to be a central figure in Pacific’s offence this season. Instead, he’ll now undergo surgery and begin a long road to recovery.
Quintana’s loss is just as devastating. The Colombian centre back had anchored the Pacific backline through much of the young season, playing every minute in four of their six league fixtures.
The 21-year-old had also made 22 appearances across all competitions in 2024, bringing grit and tenacity to the heart of the defence.
His injury occurred early in the May 5 contest and, like Kratt, will require surgery. Known for his no-nonsense style, Quintana had already picked up three yellow cards in 2025 and brought a steady presence to the back.
Through six league games, Pacific has averaged just 1.17 goals per match. The absence of Kratt’s finishing and Quintana’s defensive organization now leaves head coach James Merriman with a significant challenge just as the season begins to take shape.
"The injuries to Ronan and Juan have a significant impact on our squad,” Merriman said “These are important players who are part of the Pacific family, and we will miss them greatly on the pitch and around the club."
Pacific returns to CPL play on Saturday, May 17, with a road test against Cavalry FC in Calgary, who they sit tied with at seven points in the CPL standings. The Tridents will look to string together back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. with the match broadcast on TSN.
