The nation’s top canoe teams will be in the South Okanagan this September for the 2024 Canadian Outrigger Distance Championships.

Penticton has been selected as the host of the event, which will welcome several teams to Okanagan Lake on Sept. 28 and 29, according to the Canadian Outrigger Racing Association (CORA).

The event will host teams on Saturday for 21- and 10-kilometre races.

Sunday’s action includes a short course followed by a downwind, event organizers at Penticton Paddle Sports said.

Races are sanctioned by CORA.

The organization supports events across the country year-round, including the Penticton-hosted Duel in the Desert.

This year’s Duel in the Desert welcomed a record number of teams (38) from across Alberta and B.C. to Skaha Lake on May 11 and 12.

Registration for the Canadian Outrigger Distance Championships on Okanagan Lake is now open. More information can be found here.
