Myles Powell and Pearce Eviston each scored a goal and an assist as the Victoria Grizzlies won 4-1 over the Alberni Bulldogs at Bear Mountain Arena on Monday night.
The Grizzlies lead the best-of-five BCHL series 2-1 and can win it tonight (March 26) when they play Game 4 in Alberni. Game 5, if necessary, is at Bear Mountain Arena tomorrow.
Myles Fitzgerald scored on the power play in the first period and David Mazurek added a power play goal in the second period for the Grizz on Monday.
The Bulldogs were held to just 15 shots, 14 of which were stopped by Grizz netminder Brady Rouleau for his fifth win of the BCHL playoffs.
Royals ready to rock the Bear, free B.C. Transit bus rides
The Victoria Royals seeks its first WHL playoff win since moving from Chilliwack as the Royals face the Kamloops Blazers in Game 3 of the Western conference WHL series at Bear Mountain Arena tonight, 7 p.m.
The Royals have been bumped from their home rink of Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre by the Ford Men's World Curling Championships, which booked the Memorial Centre, run by Royals' ownership, prior to the relocation of the Royals from Chilliwack.
B.C. Transit is offering free rides from 5:30 p.m. until the end of service tonight, and for Thursday (March 28), for anyone who has a Bear Mountain Arena Royals playoff ticket.
The Royals are down 2-0 in the series, having lost the first two games in Kamloops on Friday and Saturday.
On the bright side, blue chip Royals prospect Tyler Soy, who recently turned 16, scored his first playoff goal and is generating a lot of excitement about his future with the team.
Cougars host Comox for Game 2 of VIJHL final
The Victoria Cougars are three wins away from repeating as Brent Patterson Memorial Trophy winners as they lead the Comox Valley Glacier Kings 1-0 in the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League final.
Games 2 and 3 are at Archie Browning tonight (March 26) and Thursday at 7 p.m.
Like the Royals, the Cougars were bumped by a curling tournament, as the Victoria Curling Classic hosted a world class curling tournament last week. It forced the Cougars to start the series on the road.
The Cougars scored four straight goals in the second period of Game 1 on Saturday and won 6-3, in Comox.
Sam Rice scored three times while Wade Johnson, Nathan Chen-Mack, and Matthew Ho each added singles. Cougars goalie Evan Roch stopped 18 shots for his eighth win of the playoffs.
Replying for Comox Valley was Jack Kennelly, Andrew Pond, and Brandon Halls. Goaltender Michael Hails took the loss after making 23-of-29 saves.
Both teams have already qualified for the Fred "Cyclone" Taylor Cup, which Comox hosts April 11 to 14.
