The Victoria Royals and Portland Winterhawks clashed last night in a game that spotlighted both teams offenses. Portland came away with a 6-4 victory as Oliver Bjorkstrand broke a 4-4 tie late in the third period.

The Royals trailed by 3-0 and 4-1 deficits in the first period, but fought back to tie the contest in the third period. Travis Brown led the Royals attack with two goals on the night. Brandon Magee and Tyler Soy scored the other Royals’ goals.

It was Magee’s first game back following a five game suspension.

Portland’s goal scorers were Alex Schoenborn, Keoni Texeira, Dominic Turgeon, Chase De Leo and Nic Petan (empty net goal).

Victoria started Coleman Vollrath in net, but he was replaced after allowing three goals in the first period. Jayden Sittler came in relief for the Royals and stopped 21 of 23 shots. Adin Hill made 28 saves on 32 shots for the win.

The game represented a milestone for both Tyler Soy and Taylor Crunk. Soy played his 100th WHL game, while for Crunk it was his 200th. Soy has collected 49 points in those 100 games all as a Royal. Crunk has collected 35 points in his WHL career all while wearing a Royals’ sweater.

Soy added to his total with his goal during the game.

In other Royals news defenceman Joe Hicketts has earned an invite to Hockey Canada’s National Junior Team Selection Camp for the upcoming 2015 World Junior Championships in Toronto and Montreal. Hicketts will be the first Royal to participate in the National Junior Team Selection Camp and currently leads all defencemen in the Canadian Hockey League in points.
