The University of Victoria Vikes golf teams delivered a strong showing at the 2025 Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Championships, collecting multiple titles and top-10 finishes at the two-day tournament held April 28-29 at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Missouri.
The Vikes men extended their run of dominance by capturing a fourth consecutive CAC team title, finishing with a combined score of +62 over three rounds.
The result earned them a spot at the NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship later this spring in Illinois, with UVic finishing 24 strokes ahead of runner-up Talladega College.
Also competing in the men's tournament were Spartanburg Methodist College, Florida College, and Haskell Indian Nations University.
Daniel Kirby led the charge for the Vikes, winning the men’s individual title with a three-round total of +11. Improving on his 11th-place finish from a year ago, Kirby posted rounds of 76, 77, and 74 to become the fifth consecutive UVic player to win the CAC men’s title. He was also named the CAC Player of the Year.
Teammate Maguire Lines finished second overall at +14 (75, 81, 74), earning CAC All-Tournament Team honours.
UVic also picked up two more top-10 finishes on the men’s side, with Chase Basanta placing sixth at +18 (82, 74, 78) and Owen Croft finishing eighth at +21 (82, 77, 78).
On the women’s side, the Vikes earned a second-place team finish with a two-round total of +84, only trailing Our Lady of the Lake University, which won by 27.
The Vikes were led by a standout performance from Cindy Koira.
Koira claimed individual medallist honours with a tournament-best +8, highlighted by an even-par 72 in the final round – the only par-or-better score in the women’s field.
She becomes the first UVic women’s golfer to win the CAC individual title since Rhiannon Jones in 2019 and qualifies for the NAIA Women’s Golf National Championship in Ypsilanti, Mich. She was named the CAC Player of the Year.
Brynne Davies and Lana Rummel also cracked the top 10. Davies carded consecutive rounds of 82 to finish sixth at +20, while Rummel rebounded on day two with an 81 to finish 10th at +27.
The women's side featured University of Houston-Victoria, University of Southwest, and Spartanburg Methodist College.
Next up, Koira will compete at the NAIA women’s championship, May 13-16 at Eagle Crest Golf Club, while the Vikes men head to TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill. for the men’s tournament, May 20-23.
The season won’t end there, as both squads aim to compete at the 2025 Canadian University/College Championship, June 3-6 at Rivershore Golf Links in Kamloops.
