At this year’s B.C. Summer Games, athletes from Vancouver Island and the Central Coast competed in a range of events, from baseball to field lacrosse, and brought home 152 medals (42 gold, 62 silver and 50 bronze).
The five-day competition saw more medalists from the Vancouver Island/Central Coast zone (competitors are grouped into one of eight zones, depending on where they live) than in any other region.
Fraser River and Vancouver/Coastal zones followed close behind, with 143 and 121 medals, respectively.
This isn’t the first time the Vancouver Island/Central Coast zone has done well. The region has won the most medals in eight of the last 20 B.C. Summer Games.
